PRESSURE | POETRY #1

Today I thought I’d take the leap into sharing some of my poetry with you.

January is a month where we can be so harsh on ourselves and constantly feel like we are underachieving no matter how much we do.

Expectations and Pause are both poems about this feeling and I hope if you’re feeling the New Year pressure then they put it in perspective that you’re doing great and to not be so harsh on yourself.

Expectations
28/11/17

Why do put so much pressure on ourselves

And crumble if we haven’t achieved it by twelve

Our expectations of ourselves are far too high

It’s almost like we’re expecting pigs to fly

It feels like a competition of who can achieve the most

But sometimes even having a shower deserves a boast

Our success should be individual and not be compared

But if you don’t achieve 100 things you can still feel the glare

Take a step back and go at your own pace

Stop tripping over your own shoe lace

– – – – – – – – –

Pause
20/06/17

Do you ever feel like your life is on pause

As you watch other people curtesy to their applause

Do you ever feel like your heart is beating

Yet everything else has decided to take a back seating

Do you ever feel like people are seizing their dreams

As you sit in pitiful envy as their smile beams

Do you ever feel like everybody else is achieving

Yet a long time ago you gave up even believing

When things get tough

And you call it enough

There’s nothing sadder

Than being the latter

This was a bit more personal than my usual beauty posts but I hope you find some comfort amongst my words. Do let me know if you liked this as I write quite a bit of poetry and would love to share some more if its something you are interested in!

EMPTIES #1

Empties posts are one of my favourite to do because they remind me of what I need to repurchase and encourage me to use up what I already own.

MAKEUP

The Body Shop Vitamin C Moisturiser:

This is a good dupe of the origins ginzing moisturiser, it will save you £9 but I personally prefer the origins version. I have sensitive skin and find the orange scent a bit too harsh that it aggravates my skin and that my makeup sits just that bit better on top of the origins moisturiser

Maybelline Lash Sensational:

This is a massively hyped mascara and to be honest I just don’t get it. I don’t tend to get excited over mascaras and find they all do the same thing aside from my they’re real and better than sex. Overall it is a good mascara from the drugstore and I would repurchase but will not be rushing out for a fresh tube

Benefit Hello Flawless Foundation:

A pleasant foundation with a natural finish but nothing special in my eyes. I am a lover of drugstore foundations, (I have a review on my youtube channel on Wednesday of an amazing new one!!) so I find the higher price tag doesn’t mean higher quality at all. I think it is worth getting a sample of if you like a more sheer foundation or have mature skin as it isn’t matte or dewy just natural.

L’oreal Infallible 24hr Matte Foundation:

An incredible foundation with an even better price tag! This is in my top 3 foundations of all times so it’s safe to say I will be repurchasing. It is matte without feeling like your face is going to crack and keeps my oil at bay throughout the day. If you’re oily and haven’t tried this out you’re missing out on a gem my friend!

CLEANSERS

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Winter Edition:

Liz Earle is one of my favourite skincare brands, the cleanse and polish is incredible, nothing ever seems to live up to it. However, I didn’t enjoy the festive orange and clove version, it irritated my skin and I think the reason I love the classic so much is it isn’t fragranced.

Garnier Micellar Water:

This is an amazing micellar water for the price, I’ve never felt the need to try another as it does the job and is gentle on the skin. I’m really interested in trying out some of the other cleansing waters in the range!

Screen Shot 2018-01-07 at 19.19.44.png

EYES

Nivea Eye Makeup Remover:

As you can see in the image, this isn’t actually empty… I’m just getting rid as this is ridiculously irritating to the eyes. I thought it might just be me as I do have sensitive eyes but my carer also said she can’t use it as it burns her eyes! Let me know if you’ve tried this and if it did the same or you get along with it.

Liz Earle Eyebright:

I adore this, it’s a multi use product in my eyes and it’s one of those where you don’t know you need it until you have it. Soak two cotton pads in it for refreshed and soothed eyes but then use it to tone your face also as the witch hazel is great for the skin.

SKIN

The Body Shop Vanilla Pumpkin Body Butter:

In general I live for the body shop body butters but this scent was particularly delicious. It had a marzipan and vanilla scent, which wouldn’t be what I usually go for as I love fruity scents, but I think it has converted me to sweet scents.

Fresh Rose Floral Toner:

This is incredible. Oh my days. I’m just super sad that it’s SO expensive therefore I won’t be repurchasing any time soon. It leaves my skin feeling beyond refreshed and over time it definitely reduced my skin’s redness. I bought this while on holiday as a treat so next time I go to a Sephora I might treat myself again!

Well that was quite a big empties wasn’t it, I’ve been saving them up for a few months due to my lack of blogging so my first installment has come back with a bang.

PERFUME COLLECTION

I may not have the world’s largest perfume collection but I can confidently tell you that it is closely picked and I have a scent for every possible occasion or mood.

Let me explain my logic…

Screen Shot 2018-01-07 at 15.20.24.png

Screen Shot 2018-01-07 at 15.20.41.png

For me personally there’s 3 staple scents you need in your life.

1. A sweet fragrance for everyday wear

2. A fresh fragrance for everyday wear

3. A sexy evening fragrance

Screen Shot 2018-01-07 at 15.20.30.pngThe Sweet One

La vie est belle by Lancome is sweet but floral with orange blossom as it’s main note. It’s displayed beautifully, lingers well on the skin and can instantly lift my mood by wearing it. I think that is because I am a massive sweet person so a sweet scent releases similar endorphins.Screen Shot 2018-01-07 at 15.20.33.pngThe Fresh One

If you watched my what I got for christmas you would have seen I recieved the Tiffany & Co new fragrance. On first sniff in Debenhams, I knew this was going on my christmas list, I’m a huge lover of musk which is why I think I love it so much. The musk is actually sparkling and very low key so overall it is very fresh with the addition of the floral notes.Screen Shot 2018-01-07 at 15.20.37.pngThe Evening One

This is such a nostalgic perfume for me, all my evenings spent with my friends rush back to me when I smell this, any time I ever go out on an evening I spritz my scent of a dream so this scent captures some of my best memories.

Hope you enjoyed having a nosey into my perfume collection, as much as I love these 3 beauties I am always open to new fragrances, so do let me know if there’s any fragrances you think I must have a sniff of!

METALLIC LIP CRAZE

Metallic lips went crazy last year, every brand started releasing their own version left right and centre, so I thought I’d give you the low down on my favourites and where not to spend your hard earned cash. Plus I’ll give you my opinion on the trend, as love it or loathe it, I think we’ll be seeing it well into 2018.

Screen Shot 2018-01-04 at 12.01.40.png

SPOILER: I love metallic lips, paired with a matte eye to add a little something or with a sparkly eye for an intense glitter glam, I just live for it.

(3) SLEEK EDITED.jpg

SLEEK MATTE ME METALLIC LIP CREAMS:

They’re affordable, comfortable on the lips and easy to get hold of as the majority of boots stores stock them. Buuut… The shade range isn’t that great, the two minis pictured swatch pretty similar (see bottom image) and the shade variety isn’t that vast unlike their matte range.

(4) THE BODY SHOP.jpg

THE BODY SHOP METAL LIQUID LIPS:

A moussey formula, pretty shade range and affordable price point puts these up there as one of my favourites. I just wish they were a bit more metallic, but on the contrary, this makes them perfect for people who don’t essentially want glitter lips like moi.

(5) MIXED

MAC NEW YORK APPLE:

This is alright.. it’s pretty, I’ll give it that, but nothing special. I bought this whilst in NYC so it has more of a sentimental value for me, but it is a very pretty shade and is nice on the lips, I just don’t find myself reaching for it that often.

TOO FACED MELTED METALLIC DEBUTANTE LIPSTICK:

I loved and wore this before metallic lips were a thing, for me this is more of a lip topper as it isn’t that pigmented, but it is such a pretty shade on the lips. These would be SO much better in my opinion if they dried down completely matte as I frequently avoid wearing this as it transfers like a bitch.

KYLIE COSMETICS REIGN METAL LIPSTICK:

Well.. I kind of hate myself for saying this.. but this is my favourite metallic lipstick e v e r. I know Kylie’s brand is so controversial and a nightmare to get shipped over, but I have to give it to her that this formula is amazing. Opaque, a beautiful red copper shade and so god damn long wearing. However I have heard that her formula is a copy of the more affordable brand colourpop, so maybe check there shades out before splashing your cash on these and waiting months for your order. *sips tea*

MUA LUXE LUSTER METALLIC LIQUID LIP:

This is incredible for £4, silver isn’t my go to colour and as this is super pigmented I don’t reach for it very often, but when I do I can’t believe how good the quality is for the price. After writing this post, it has made me really want to try some more “me” shades from this range, superdrug I’m coming for ya.

(6) SWATCHES.jpg

LEFT TO RIGHT: sleek roman copper, sleek rusted rose, sleek volcanic, body shop pink nickel, body shop plum titanium, mac new york apple, too faced metallic debutante, kylie cosmetics reign & mua luxe luster

That’s my round up, conclusion, best of or whatever you want to call it of metallic lipsticks and the craze that surrounded them last year. Compared to wavy brows and nose hair extensions it’s pretty harmless. If there’s any trends you think are going to be big this year then definitely let me know!

WHAT TO EXPECT IN 2018

It’s been a long ol time since I’ve posted on here, but let’s not forget that this is where the magic started, in 2014, with my compact camera, the fake orchid in the bathroom & a desire to talk about one of my first ever high end skincare purchases. Rubyredr0ses was born. It may have been neglected, but you need to trust me on this one, it is far from deceased. 2018 is the year I’m bringing my blog back to life and you’re going to want to be here for it.

DIS ONE.jpg

Soooo, let’s get down to the nitty gritty bit, the part you want to know out of excitement.. or curiosity. I don’t mind which as you’re already here reading the post and that’s enough for me.

MY UPLOAD SCHEDULE !!!

MONDAY

THURSDAY

SUNDAY

@ 9am

Yes you read that correct, I have a schedule, I am going to be posting on these days every. single. week. I know right.

YES.jpg

During December I have been uploading to my youtube channel every Wednesday & Saturday at 9am, which I intend to keep up for the duration of 2018, with a minor tweak to the upload time as I did a poll on twitter and 6pm was way more popular than the latter.

This means that I’m uploading content to the interweb 5 times a week, so everyday aside from a Tuesday and a Friday you will have fresh content, I really hope you don’t get sick of me!

final.jpg

2017 was a tough year for me, it is something I’m going to talk about in the future but I want to start the fresh year on a positive note, so I have a post planned for February opening up about last year.

I guess all that is left to say is happy new year! I really do hope 2018 is a good year for you all. For me personally, I have a really good feeling about it so watch this space..

And if you’re reading this with a sorry head from last night, then just think, at least the year can only go up from here!

Wishlist Roundup

So that’s a wrap on wishlist week! I thought I would collate a post containing all 7 wishlists I’ve posted this week with a link to each underneath their image. If you’re reading this and had no idea I was doing wishlist week then you’re in for a treat, get yourself a cuppa and be prepared to want to get spendy.

Homeware Wishlist

I have throughly enjoyed creating & posting content every day – I am already considering the possibilities of what other themed weeks I could do. If I have learnt one thing from this week, it is that I have a serious window shopping addiction, better than an actual spending addiction I guess!

Thank you for reading whether that be one or all of the posts, self satisfaction is great, but knowing somebody else has enjoyed means the world.

What was your favourite post of wishlist week? I adore all of them, I literally cannot even pick my top three, however I am really excited about the homeware one as I am moving out soon so would love to purchase some of those bits for my flat.

Homeware Wishlist

For the last post of wish list week, I am bringing to you a homeware version, this was one of my favourites to create as I am completely & utterly obsessed with homeware. Similar to yesterday’s post, blush is a common colour running throughout, however copper does seem to be the colour I am most drawn towards for homeware.

Festive Lights Copper Wire Curtain – £34.99

Sass & Belle Set Of 2 Copper Wire Mesh Baskets – £20

Crosley X UO Blush Velvet Record Player – £100

Maisons Du Monde Pink Faux Fur Vintage Chair – £94.49

Marquis & Dawe Copper Office Desk Lamp – £49

Ikea Hemnes Full Length Mirror – £80

Pomme Pomme Extra Large Mink Pink Handmade Chunky Knit Blanket – £175

I have wanted curtain fairy lights for the longest time, I’d never seen a copper version before until now and I’m beyond obsessed. I’m moving out in a couple of weeks and these would be perfect for my filming wall behind my bed! I have been lusting over this pomme pomme throw for the longest time, and as it is on the pricier side, I haven’t been able to justify buying it but I think it will be going on my Christmas list. The Homesense sheepskin chairs are the biggest craze right now and I am 100% hooked. I absolutely adore them, I found this very similar one from Maisons Du Monde as Homesense doesn’t have an online shop, but I really like the one I’ve linked so may end up getting that one.

I cannot believe wish list week is over! Tomorrow I am going to post a roundup of the week so keep your eyes peeled for that if you think you’ve missed any.

What is your favourite shop for homeware? I love Dunelm, Ikea & little quirky shops.

A/W Accessories Wishlist

Accessories are that category that aren’t essentials, but when you see something you love, you need it! Scarves, jewellery, you name it I’ve got it in this wish list. There’s a common colour scheme of blush/rose gold running throughout and this is simply because I am freaking obsessed!

Lipsy Embroidered Velvet Backpack – £55

Pandora Dazzling Daisy Band Ring – £75

Barbour Tartan Scarf Pink/Grey – £34.95

Ted Baker Noelia Oxblood Purse – £99

Ted Baker Sattine Snowflake Stud Earrings – £25

Tiffany & Co Double Heart Pendant – £235

I’m drooling over everything, but especially the bag as it is absolutely stunning and I’m a sucker for anything velvet or embroidered. Everybody dreams of owning something from Tiffany & Co – the double heart pendant is a classic, with a twist on the original colour scheme making it right up my street. I am in love, and I mean in love, with this beautiful Ted Baker purse. It’s chic, gorgeous and definitely going on my Christmas list!

What accessory are you a sucker for? I think mine has to be scarves or earrings!

Skin & Body Care Wishlist

Sunday’s are made for relaxing and pampering yourself. This wish list contains my desired products for a dreamy pamper session. Bath running, face mask on, brain off.

Lush Lord Of Misrule Shower Cream – £16.50

The Body Shop Vitamin C Glow Protect Lotion SPF 30 – £15

The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask – £17

Mario Badescu Drying Lotion – £16

Frank Body Original Coffee Scrub – £12.95

The Body Shop Vanilla Pumpkin Body Butter – £15

The Body Shop Drops Of Youth Liquid Peel – £18

The Body Shop glow lotion sounds like just what I need to protect my skin from harmful UV rays and pollution, whilst giving me that glow from within, as I use a range of matte base makeup that can leave my skin looking a bit dull. Everybody and their Mother has been talking about the Mario Badescu drying lotion and I am certain I need it in my life! My blemishes are stubborn so I need a miracle worker to blitz them away, and from the reviews I’ve heard, this little bottle is my man. I adore The Body Shop body butter formula, add a Halloween scent to the mix and I am sold!

I think I love skincare nearly as much as I love Fridays!

What is your favourite skincare brand? Are you a cleanse and moisture kind of gal or do you go the full hog? My skincare routine is definitely excessive!

Stationery & Tech Wishlist

Stationery & technology are two of my biggest loves, to me there’s nothing better than having up to date gadgets and stationery almost too pretty to use.

Screen Shot 2017-09-30 at 22.58.33.png

Top left to bottom right

Wilko Unearthed Cork Notebook A4 – £3

Zoella This Is Your Year Desk Calendar – £10

Canon Powershot G7X Mark II – £539

Swarovski Crystalline Stardust Rose Gold Plated Ballpoint Pen – £25

Paperchase Get Organised Desktop Accessory Jars – £4

Jade & Deer Blue Charging Pom Pom Charm – £12.99

Starbucks X Skinnydip Pumpkin Charm Case – £18

The Canon G7X is a staple for any vlogger, especially during vlogmas, however I have just upgraded to the iPhone 7 plus so hopefully my vlogging game will up this year anyway! The G7X is still my camera goals though… How innovative is a charging pom pom? A backup power supply for your phone and an easy way to find your keys in your bag – a double whammy if you ask me. The Starbucks X Skinnydip case is just autumn goals, a bit on the pricey side, but worth it because I’d probably use it all year round as I am autumn obsessed!

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s post all about lust worthy skincare…

Are you a stationery or technology lover? What’s the one product that you buy so many of that you really don’t need? Mine is notebooks!
